JPMorgan Chase Pays $1.45 Million To Settle Sex Discrimination Lawsuit
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced this week that a class sex discrimination lawsuit filed by the commission against JPMorgan Chase in Ohio has been settled for $1.45 million.
The global financial services firm was charged with maintaining a sexually hostile work environment towards female employees at one location in Ohio. The suit alleges sexually charged behavior and comments from supervisory staff and other bankers towards female mortgage bankers, resulting in a sexist and uncivil atmosphere.
In addition to making the workplace severely unpleasant, female bankers who did not participate in or accept the hostile treatment suffered economic consequences after being deprived lucrative sales calls and training opportunities as well as other benefits of employment.
The final settlement will be split among the class of 16 female bankers. The settlement also calls for the development of a call retention system to ensure that calls are distributed fairly and equally, preventing further issues.
