Minnesota Minimum Wage Increases Tomorrow
Starting tomorrow, August 1, 2015, the minimum wage will increase in Minnesota (Minn. Stat. 177.24).
For large employers, who do more than $500,000 worth of business annually, the minimum wage will be raised from $8.00 to $9.00 per hour.
For small employers, who do less than $500,000 worth of business annually, the minimum wage will be raised from $6.50 to $7.25 per hour.
There are some exceptions to these wage requirements. One states that for the first 90 days of employment, an employer may pay an employee under age 20 a training wage of $7.25 per hour. Another states that large employers must only pay employees under 18 years of age $7.25 per hour.
Employers should note that these minimum wage increases are not the last they will see. The statute calls for these rates to be raised again on August 1, 2016.
